Engineers of SKB-2 (part of the military-industrial holding "Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant", KMZ) have developed a controller for controlling the cargo boom (ship's lifting device). This was reported by the holding's press service.
The controller is used to control the cargo winch, and, separately or in conjunction with it, the boom stay winches.
The equipment has a heating function, it can be installed on the deck of the ship and operate at negative temperatures. There is also a connector for connecting a wired remote control.
Specialists of SKB-2 have applied a relay-contactor control scheme, which reduces the cost of the controller compared to a frequency-controlled drive.
The cargo boom is a beam-brace, fixed at the lower end to a mast or column, and the upper end is suspended on a cable. It can rotate around a vertical axis and change its inclination to the horizon.
