Cybersecurity experts at Kaspersky GreAT have reported an unusual scam scheme. In it, attackers blackmail YouTube bloggers, forcing them to distribute hidden miners among their subscribers.
According to Kaspersky GreAT specialists, more than two thousand people have fallen victim to the scheme, but the real number may be significantly higher.
Attackers send bloggers complaints about their videos, threatening to remove the channel on YouTube under the pretext of copyright infringement. In exchange for "help," they demand the publication of videos with malicious links.
When downloading archives, users unwittingly install a Trojan, which downloads SilentCryptoMiner — a hidden miner that uses the power of infected computers to mine cryptocurrency. The scheme puts not only bloggers at risk, but also their subscribers. Experts emphasize the importance of vigilance on the Internet.
