AI-powered "Alice" answers in Yandex search continue to work under communication restrictions

Yandex announced that search and AI-powered "Alice" answers remain available to users even under mobile network restrictions. This was reported on March 18 by the company's press service to TASS. If the required site is not on the whitelist of allowed resources, the user still receives an answer - in the form of a short AI-powered "Alice" answer in the browser or search application. A TASS correspondent verified this in the center of Moscow: the request "how to get to the TASS editorial office" with limited communication provided a correct route through the "Alice" answers in the search. In addition to text answers, the functionality of maps, reference data about organizations, as well as viewing photos and videos in the search are preserved.

Whitelists and AI-powered answers: how Yandex bypasses restrictions

The introduction of whitelists of sites is one of the tools for regulating Internet traffic, in which access to resources outside the list is blocked or slowed down. In conditions when a significant part of the sites are outside the allowed perimeter, the traditional search with a transition to the page loses its meaning - the user sees the link, but cannot open the source.

AI-powered "Alice" answers solve this problem differently: instead of going to the site, the system extracts and displays the necessary information directly in the search results. In fact, the user receives the content of the page without opening it - and the whitelist restrictions do not work in this case.

What works in Yandex search under network restrictions

  • Short AI-powered "Alice" answers to any requests - even if the source site is not on the whitelist
  • Routes and navigation via Yandex Maps
  • Reference information about organizations
  • Viewing photos and videos in search results
  • Full transition to the site - only if it is on the whitelist
