Russian soldiers praise the Dragunov sniper rifle for its reliability and ability to work in any conditions. This was reported by a sniper of the Arctic motorized rifle brigade with the call sign Taiga.
The military man noted that the objective range of the rifle is 400–500 m, but after the modernization of the sight, he works from a distance of up to 800 m.
The main advantage of the weapon is reliability. If you accidentally dropped the rifle in the mud, it will still work. Special sniper cartridges are designed for the rifle so that there is stabilization when fired. There are cartridges with increased penetration, we mainly use them. But if the situation is critical, and they are over, you can borrow from the machine gunner somewhere in a combat situation.
The Kalashnikov concern noted that the rifle is distinguished by reliable gas-operated automation with a short stroke of the gas piston and the presence of a gas regulator.
Firing from the SVD is possible with the use of any type of 7.62×54R cartridges, however, the best accuracy results are achieved when using sniper ammunition.
