VNIIBPT presented a unique vodka formula that reduces hangover effect by 57%

Russian scientists have found that adding Chinese lemongrass to vodka reduces hangover syndrome

The All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Food Biotechnology (VNIIBPT) announced the completion of the development of a unique vodka formula that can reduce the toxicity of ethyl alcohol. Over the past five years, the institute's specialists have created a database of 15 natural components that can reduce the harmful effects of alcohol on the body.

A major vodka producer joined the project, contacting VNIIBPT at the end of 2023 with a request to create a formula that minimizes the negative effects of alcohol. A group of scientists developed 20 experimental samples of a forty-degree drink, testing various combinations of natural components.

After almost a year of research and testing, the sample with the addition of Chinese lemongrass showed the best result. Laboratory tests recorded a reduction in the hangover score from 9.4 to 4 points, which indicates a decrease in negative impact by 57% compared to the control sample.
