TsNIITOCHMASH completed deliveries of armor-piercing cartridges SP10 and SP11 under state contracts

SP10 and SP11 ammunition are distinguished by high accuracy of fire

The Central Research Institute for Precision Machine Engineering (JSC TsNIITOCHMASH, part of the Kalashnikov concern) fully fulfilled its obligations under state contracts for the supply of 9-mm pistol cartridges of SP10 and SP11 indexes in 2024.

The 9x21-mm SP10 is distinguished by its high armor-piercing capability and accuracy of fire, and the cartridge surpasses its competitors in these technical parameters. The ammunition is an armor-piercing bullet with a steel heat-strengthened core. SP10 is used when firing from 6P53, SR1M, SR2M, 6P72, 6P72-1 weapons developed by TsNIITOCHMASH.

The cartridge is designed to engage enemy personnel without personal protective equipment (PPE) at a range of up to 100 m, as well as in Class 2 PPE at a range of up to 50 m. The cartridge is capable of penetrating a 5 mm thick steel sheet at a distance of 40 m.

The 9 mm SP11 pistol cartridge with a lead core bullet was developed as a cheaper analogue of the SP10 cartridge. The ammunition has a lower chance of bullet ricochet and is suitable for practicing shooting skills in shooting ranges.

The design of the SP11 cartridge bullet consists of a bimetallic jacket with a lead core. It is used in 6P53, 6P72, 6P72-1, SR1M, SR2M weapons, also created at TsNIITOCHMASH. The SP11 cartridge can engage enemy personnel unprotected by PPE at a range of up to 100 m.

  • Bullet weight — 8.1 g

Both cartridges were developed at TsNIITOCHMASH. The SP10 cartridge was adopted by Russian special forces in 1996, and the SP11 cartridge in 1997.
