A large-scale modernization of production is underway at the Sevmash enterprise of USC. Thanks to it, a new domestic vacuum electric furnace has appeared in the forge and thermal shop of the shipbuilding plant. It replaced the previous furnace, which was manufactured in 1981.
As journalists were told at the enterprise, the new product has already been put into trial operation. Its key feature is automatic operation. At the same time, the operation of the furnace is displayed on the control screen, and the operator can see failures and errors, if any. Errors are also displayed as a code and in text form with a description of the problem.
According to its technical characteristics, the new furnace surpasses its predecessor: its loading volume has increased by more than 2 times, and the loading mass by 1.5 times. Now the furnace in the forge and thermal shop can accept up to 1.5 tons of metal.
Its operating temperature reaches 1200 degrees, and the release time of titanium products from the furnace takes from several hours to several days. During this time, the product not only undergoes heat treatment, but also gets rid of excess hydrogen.
If the power goes out at the enterprise, the processes will not stop. An emergency power source is provided for the new furnace.
