Old-timers Join the Fight: Osa and Strela SAM Systems Leave No Chance for Drones in Battle

Including Shark, Furia, Leleka, and other drones

The crew of the Strela-10 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) destroyed more than 30 unmanned aerial vehicles in a month in the sky on the front line. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The servicemen of the unit have shot down UAVs such as Shark, Furia, Leleka, and several strike-type aircraft drones.

On constant duty with the paratrooper anti-aircraft gunners is the MRU-B (reconnaissance and control module - battery) unit based on the BTR-MDM Rakushka. This system allows round-the-clock monitoring and detection of enemy aircraft.

During airspace control, the soldiers detect UAVs approaching the forward positions. After determining the direction and azimuth to the flying drones, the data is transmitted to the Strela-10 SAM system unit, which began mass production in 1970. The anti-aircraft gunners bring the system into combat readiness, move it to the firing line, and, after capturing the target in the sight, launch missiles.

In addition, the crew of the Osa-AKM anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) destroyed about 30 unmanned aerial vehicles in the past month, including the US-made Switchblade loitering munition. The system has been produced since 1971.

We caught a Switchblade. We also went out into the field, looked, dropped the coordinates. We escorted, coordinated, and that's it - the target was destroyed.
