Likhachev: Rosatom interested in peaceful atom projects in Southeast Asia

The state corporation "Rosatom" is interested in strengthening cooperation with Southeast Asian countries. The corporation's management is discussing peaceful atom projects with Thailand, the Philippines, and Myanmar, its head Alexey Likhachev said on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.

Negotiations are underway with many countries in the region to create a nuclear industry.

According to him, the Asian market is waiting for Russian nuclear technologies, despite pressure from Western countries. At the same time, Rosatom has big plans for developing cooperation with China, Likhachev emphasized.

Rosatom in the Far East

He also spoke about the state corporation's plans for developing nuclear energy in Russia. In particular, nuclear projects will appear in four regions in the Far East.

By 2042, 10 new innovative medium and small capacity power units should be operating in them.

Nuclear energy will help the economic growth of Primorye, Kamchatka, Yakutia, and the Khabarovsk Territory. All projects will undergo public hearings and will be approved by the Russian Cabinet, President Vladimir Putin, the head of Rosatom concluded.
