"Yakovlev" May Resume Development of a Vertical Takeoff and Landing Aircraft

The Russian aircraft manufacturing company PJSC "Yakovlev" is ready to resume the development of a fifth-generation vertical takeoff and landing aircraft if it receives a corresponding request from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. This was announced by the company's CEO, Andrey Boginsky.

He recalled that the first flight of the prototype Yak-36 vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a run along the runway took place on July 27, 1964. Two years later, the first flight was performed in full profile – with vertical takeoff and landing.

The topic of vertical takeoff and landing aircraft was frozen in the 1990s, but we have retained the scientific and technical groundwork. Its combination with new aviation technologies allows us to quickly return to the creation of vertical takeoff and landing aircraft if the Russian Ministry of Defense entrusts us with this work.

The Yak-36 was equipped with two R-27 lift-cruise engines and developed a speed of up to 1100 km/h with a takeoff weight of 9400 kg. The flight range was 500 kilometers.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Osoed hunter drone was developed in Russia. The novelty is equipped with a special mechanism that fires a net from a distance of several meters, covering enemy equipment.
