Russian Railways (RZD) has begun actively testing the technology of introducing fare payment on trains using geolocation. This was announced on the sidelines of the "Digital Industry of Industrial Russia" (CIIPR) conference by Evgeny Charkin, Deputy General Director of the organization.
We are now actively testing geolocation payment technology. But I am absolutely sure that the technology will take off, because it is very convenient. We are getting good feedback on the technology, it works.
Charkin noted that a pilot project using this technology is currently underway in Kazan, and passengers have used it more than 1,500 times.
Payment is made as follows: the user installs the "ProTransport+" application on their smartphone and confirms the start of the trip, the cost of the ticket is "frozen" on their bank card. After the trip, the actual fare is debited from the card, and an electronic receipt and electronic ticket are generated.
