The first test flight of the import-substituted MC-21 civilian aircraft will take place in 2024, according to Oleg Nesterov, Deputy General Director of Yakovlev PJSC for Logistics, at Aerospace Science Week in Moscow.
The MC-21 has received a domestic PD-14 engine, replacing the Western PW1400G. In addition to the engine, it has 36 Russian-made systems, including an auxiliary power unit, fuel, and hydraulic systems. Serial deliveries of the aircraft are expected next year.
After the events of February 2022 and the impossibility of using foreign aircraft, the state set the task of significantly increasing the production of civil aviation equipment. This means that in 2028, 125 aircraft of four types need to be produced.
He clarified that this includes the MC-21, SJ-100, Tu-214, and Il-114. Nesterov reminded that the USSR produced 75-80 civilian aircraft per year. The implementation of the modern program means large investments in the production of equipment and components for the aviation industry, he added.
Also, the goal for 2023-2024 is to obtain certification documents for new aircraft. According to Nesterov, this means that it is necessary to fly experienced aircraft at least 20 times a month and maintain a stock of spare parts.
Earlier it was reported that a film about the development of the MC-21 is being shown at the Rostec stand as part of the "Russia" forum.
