The Kazan Aviation Plant (KAZ) still produces Tu-214 aircraft. However, production volumes are very modest, practically one aircraft per year. The author of the Telegram channel SkyExpert explained why it is still worth continuing to produce the long-range liner.
Replacing the Boeing-757
According to him, the Tu-214 is more interesting and larger than all modifications of the Tu-204, and has container loading.
The Tu-204-300 has excellent range with a large commercial load, but there is nowhere to put it. There were 142 seats in the Tu-204-300. And this is not enough for a long-haul flight. And in the Tu-214, people fit like in an A-321 with normal tanks. And with this good, it flies directly from Moscow to Khabarovsk. There was no economy to Vladivostok, but Khabarovsk flew normally. Consumption, comfort - at the level of the Boeing-757.
The author of the channel recalled that in Russia the Tu-204 and Tu-214 had some success. There were problems. And they are not related to the aircraft, but to the manufacturer. First, there were problems with deliveries for carriers.
How long did Transaero wait for its planes? They only received three pieces. Did the Tu-214 single-handedly solve all the problems and ruin Dalavia? Yes, simply. The Tu-204 was still produced in larger quantities due to the fact that Aviastar was more responsible for production and after-sales service. But then fresh cars, which are now being restored, also stood by the fence.
Advantages in range and load
The problem with engines is also not as critical as it is presented in the media, the expert believes. You don't need many replacement units either, the Tu-214 doesn't have those flight hours.
About range and load. Shove 25 tons into the Tu-214. Try it. The luggage compartments are very modest. You can't shove much in. There are different passengers in the cabin. As a result, we have about 18 tons of the same.
Regarding obsolescence. I agree that the third [member of the crew] can easily be eliminated there. Regarding the long-range versions of the MS-21, it is also controversial... There is no engine yet and no understanding of what we are talking about. But the main thing is that the Kazan Aviation Plant is not capable of producing the MS-21. It can only produce the Tu-214. Let them do something at least. And for modern aircraft, it is necessary to greatly update the workshops, which is now problematic.
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Anton Alikhanov, explained that KAZ will begin to meet the demand for Tu-214 from commercial carriers from 2027. The program until 2030 involves the production of 115 aircraft at the Kazan Aviation Plant, but this is not an exact plan, but a guideline.
Earlier www1.ru reported that 7 new aircraft, 3 helicopters and 6 aircraft engines are being completed in Russia.
