Russian bombs with universal planning and correction modules (UPCM) are capable of flying even further and more accurately hitting the target by combining inertial guidance systems, as well as television guidance systems and a data transmission system. This was reported by military analyst Evgeny Marzhetsky.
According to him, the idea with laser illumination looks like an effective and simple solution, but not without serious drawbacks. For example, in this case, accuracy will depend on bad weather and smoke in the battlefield. It is also worth considering the final price of UPABs, which are good precisely for their price-quality ratio.
Marzhetsky called for taking the SPICE-250 ammunition with a caliber of 113 kg as a basis, the range of which is 100 km with a circular probable deviation of less than 3 km and a 95% probability of hitting the target.
Such high accuracy of destruction with high resistance to electronic warfare (EW) is due to the presence of a combined control system: inertial with GPS correction (INS/GPS) in the middle section of the trajectory and electro-optical with autonomous image comparison algorithms - at the final one.
The analyst clarified that the ammunition's memory contains up to 100 images of potential targets. The aerial bomb is attached to the pylon of the aircraft with communication to the cockpit of the pilot-operator, who selects a target from the list and enters the coordinates of its possible location. After being dropped on a given flight path, the aerial munition itself begins to search for its target.
The most appropriate is the development of aviation ammunition with a combined control system that protects them from electronic warfare equipment. Despite the relatively small warhead, the simultaneous use of 16 to 28 high-precision Spice 250-type aerial bombs on the LBS could create a lot of unpleasant sensations for the enemy.
