A membrane wastewater treatment unit has been installed on the nuclear icebreaker "Leningrad" of Project 22220, which is currently under construction. It disinfects water before discharge overboard, according to the USC.

The membrane treatment unit removes large and small particles, impurities, organic substances, and pathogenic microorganisms, with the final stage being wastewater disinfection. This solution ensures safe operation of the vessel in Arctic waters and reduces impact on the ecosystem. "Leningrad" is the sixth vessel of Project 22220.

The icebreaker's dimensions are: 173.3 meters in length and 34 meters in width, displacement of 33.54 thousand tons, power of 60 MW on shafts, draft of 10.5 or 9.03 meters, crew of 54 people, and an estimated service life of 40 years. The keel was laid on January 26, 2024, and the launch is scheduled before the end of 2026. Currently, the hull of the icebreaker is being formed and equipment is being installed at the Baltiysky Zavod shipyard.
