From Icebreakers to Gas Carriers: Baltzavod May Start Building Ships for Propane and Butane

The shipyard is considering a new direction in civil shipbuilding

AO "Baltiysky Zavod" (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) is exploring the possibility of building large-capacity gas carriers, said Igor Gribov, the shipyard's marketing director.

According to Gribov, the plant's traditional program is associated with the marine nuclear industry: icebreakers, floating nuclear power units, and technological support vessels. Now the shipyard is considering the possibility of building large-capacity gas carriers – LPG tankers for transporting liquefied petroleum gases (propane and butane), as well as other vessels for transporting extracted resources, at its facilities.

Gribov noted that the civil cargo fleet currently has a demand for such vessels.
