Today, the Russian Ministry of Defence may have used eight 3M22 "Zircon" hypersonic missiles in a single salvo. If confirmed, this would be one of the largest uses of this type of missile in recent times. This is reported by the "Voennoye Obozreniye" (Military Review) publication.

The 3M22 "Zircon" is a sea-based hypersonic cruise missile. Open sources indicate a speed of up to 8–9 Mach, a range of about 450–1000 km, and a flight altitude of up to 30–40 km during the cruise phase. The exact characteristics of the missile remain classified.

For the "Zircon", such group application is primarily interesting due to its scale: it is no longer about a single use of a hypersonic missile, but about a salvo of several items of the same type.

Earlier, "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" reported that military correspondent Thomas Newdick from The War Zone expressed doubt that the Russian 3M22 "Zircon" missile is classified as a hypersonic cruise missile. According to him, available data indicate that its scheme is more consistent with a maneuvering quasi-ballistic trajectory.
