The new Russian "Superjet" has received a significantly redesigned wing with horizontal wingtips. The updated aerodynamic scheme has given it an advantage over a number of foreign regional airliners, said Yegor Popov, director of the Yakovlev production center.

Such aerodynamic wing contours are similar to foreign modern aircraft, for example, the Airbus 320. And they surpass Embraer and Bombardier in their qualities.

It should be noted that the wing contours (or winglets) directly affect the commercial benefit for airlines. Thanks to them, the aircraft spends less energy to overcome air resistance, gains increased range and flight speed at cruising altitude, and also reduces noise levels and carbon dioxide emissions.

Yakovlev specified that these elements provide up to 4% net fuel economy.

Earlier, "Pervy Tekhnichesky" compared the SJ-100 with a direct competitor in its class — the Embraer E190-E2. In terms of fuel efficiency, the SJ-100 with PD-8 is estimated to be around 16–18 g/pass-km, while the Embraer E190-E2 is at 13–15 g/pass-km.

In terms of flight range, the Brazilian airliner also exceeds the Embraer's 4500 thousand km mark, while the SJ-100 claims up to 3000–3200 km.
