By the end of 2026, only four MC-21-310 aircraft out of eighteen currently in production will arrive at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant's flight test station, said the plant's general director, Andrey Soynov. Apparently, there is no talk of mass production.
According to him, in recent years, IAZ has done a great job of reconstructing facilities and purchasing new equipment. Among the main tasks, he named accelerating the pace of movement on the production line.
In total, 18 aircraft are in production, of which 10 are assembled airframes, including 4 aircraft in a high degree of readiness, we plan to bring them to the flight test station by the end of 2026.
Soynov added that IAZ is awaiting the completion of certification procedures, after which it will be able to supply aircraft to airlines.
First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov noted that the new shortened version of the MC-21 will lose two fuselage sections and will become a direct competitor to the European Airbus A320.
"Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" compared the two airliners by technical characteristics and found that the MC-21 is still losing in some components.
