Almost half of Russians – 49% of respondents – have taken over the management of their elderly relatives' finances. Another 19% have restricted certain types of online transfers and set limits, according to a VTB study.

The reason for such caution is the high activity of fraudsters. 57% of respondents reported attempts to deceive their retired relatives over the past few years. Among those who encountered such cases, a quarter reported that their relatives eventually transferred money to the attackers.

Another 33% reported unnecessary subscriptions, services, or purchases made by elderly relatives. The same number encountered calls and messages from fraudsters but managed to avoid financial losses.

For additional protection, 14% of respondents disabled cardless ATM withdrawals, and 10% have already connected or are going to connect the "second hand" service, which allows a trusted person to control certain operations. In general, about 70% of respondents use digital protection tools.

The study involved 1.5 thousand Russians aged 18 to 65 from cities with a population of more than 100 thousand people.
