Students of the Moscow Aviation Institute participated in calculating the cost of the Il-96-400M long-haul wide-body aircraft program. Denis Shevtsov, a student of the institute specializing in "Economics and Management of High-Tech Industry," spoke about his internship at PAO "Ilyushin".
According to him, other projects included the regional turboprop Il-114-300 and the heavy military transport Il-76MD-90A.
When you are faced not with an abstract product №1, but with the cost calculation of a real wing or fuselage of an Il-76, the attitude towards the accuracy of each figure changes dramatically.
Aviation expert Oleg Panteleev explained that the Il-96-400M with PS-90A engines is not of interest to airlines that have chosen similar wide-body aircraft from Boeing and Airbus. This situation effectively makes the airliner "unnecessary" in the domestic transportation market.
Earlier, "Pervy Tekhnichesky" in a large overview article compared the capabilities of the Il-96-400M with the global standard for long-haul efficiency – the Airbus A350-1000.
