Vice Speaker of the Federation Council Nikolay Zhuravlev told RIA Novosti that the digital ruble will allow for more effective detection of illegal operations. According to him, every transaction is traceable, which gives regulators a tool to combat fraudulent activities and money laundering. He emphasized that the new form of currency will complement cash and non-cash rubles, not replace them, and citizens themselves will choose how to store and transfer money.
From September 1, 2026, systemically important banks and credit organizations significant in the payment services market are obliged to connect to the digital ruble platform. Currently, 30 banks, about 3,500 individuals, and 500 legal entities are participating in the pilot.
The head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, previously stated that the use of the digital ruble will remain voluntary, and rumors about the forced transfer of salaries and pensions are absurd. The regulator sees the potential of the digital ruble in business and international payments.
