The United Shipbuilding Corporation (OSK) presented a concept for a robotic complex that includes a carrier boat with two to three autonomous and remotely operated underwater vehicles (AUVs and ROVs), as well as a search UAV to expand the operating range. Control is carried out from an integrated containerized post, which can operate from an unprepared coast, OSK's press service told "Pervy Tekhnichesky".
The boat serves as a carrier for underwater vehicles, the UAV provides real-time communication and control, and the ground post coordinates the work of all elements. Communication with underwater vehicles is maintained via hydroacoustic channels, and with the boat and drone via satellite and VHF channels. This combination allows for research, infrastructure monitoring, and survey work in the Arctic, where coastal infrastructure is practically non-existent.
OSK emphasized that the complex could become the basis for offshore operations, and the next step will be to develop its composition, control systems, power, and payloads.
Russian Marine Robotic Systems: Background
We have already reported on similar developments in marine robotics. Back in 2023, Nevskoe PKB, part of OSK, presented a concept for a marine mobile robotic system that combines drones, unmanned surface vessels, and multifunctional surface platforms on a single Russian-developed software platform – its first prototype was planned for production by 2026. The new OSK complex develops the same idea, adding autonomous and remotely operated underwater vehicles to the surface component.
This direction also includes the development of an automatic UAV take-off and landing system for small autonomous vessels – a joint operation of air and sea components, which formed the basis of OSK's new complex. In late 2024, an autonomous underwater vehicle with AI and a manipulator complex was presented, aimed at the same Arctic tasks – infrastructure maintenance and environmental monitoring.
