It is impossible to resume the production of heavy transport aircraft An-124 "Ruslan" in Russia due to the loss of competencies. This point of view was expressed by aircraft commander Nikolai Yatsenko.
According to him, a total of 56 "Ruslans" were built, and the actual number of flying aircraft changes regularly. Nevertheless, the readiness of the An-124 for flights is maintained, Yatsenko specified.
Production was completed in 2004. Many technologies and factories have been lost. It is difficult to restore all of this.
Yatsenko explained that the uniqueness of the "Ruslan" is due to its ability to lift up to 120 tons to an altitude of up to 10 km. There is no alternative to it yet.
Aviation expert Oleg Panteleev explained to "Pervy Tekhnichesky" that resuming the production of 50-year-old aircraft is a meaningless undertaking.
