The Railway Troops of the Moscow Military District have begun using unmanned universal modules based on the TD-5 transport draisine for technical reconnaissance, inspecting damaged sections of railway infrastructure, and delivering material resources. The introduction of the new equipment was announced by Major General Oleg Bragin, head of the Railway Troops Directorate of the Moscow Military District, on the eve of Railway Troops Day.
According to Bragin, the robotic platform is already being used to check the condition of tracks after damage. The use of a remotely controlled draisine allows for initial inspection of railway sections without a crew directly present in the dangerous zone.
In addition to ground-based unmanned systems, unmanned aerial vehicles are also actively used in units. Operators launch drones from special trains for aerial reconnaissance. They help detect damage to railway infrastructure and assess the condition of large and medium-sized bridges, which accelerates decision-making during restoration work.
The Major General also noted that the digitalization of management continues in the Railway Troops. New digital tools allow for faster transmission of orders to units, prompt collection of information, and reduction of decision-making time when performing various tasks.
