In Russia, an unmanned electric unified rail-based transport platform equipped with a remotely controlled BM-03 combat module has been developed. Information about the development appeared in the FIPS database.
According to the concept, the platform is intended for the protection and defense of railway facilities, escorting repair units, and conducting technical reconnaissance of tracks under combat conditions. The vehicle moves on rails, does not require a crew, and can operate in a fully remote mode.
The BM-03 combat module was mounted on a pedestal turntable and equipped with a 12.7 mm machine gun with an electric trigger. The module includes an electro-optical sight with television and rangefinder channels, thermal imaging surveillance equipment, weather, roll, and pitch sensors, as well as a unified electronic control unit.
The platform was built on self-propelled bogies with an electromechanical drive and rechargeable batteries. Apparently, control is carried out through an industrial computer with an autopilot, a GPS receiver, and a video surveillance system — two cameras on each side of the hull.
The system is capable of round-the-clock surveillance, detecting targets through thermal imaging channels, providing fire support, and covering personnel from sabotage groups and drones.
