The construction of several protective shelters for combat aircraft has been completed at the Marinovka airbase in the Volgograd region. This is reported by Military Watch Magazine (MWM). According to the magazine, the structures are designed to increase the survivability of Russian aircraft stationed at one of the important long-range air support airfields.

The base houses Su-34 front-line bombers and Su-24MR tactical reconnaissance aircraft. MWM notes that the appearance of new shelters is associated with the need to strengthen the protection of expensive aviation equipment after the increased threat of long-range strikes on military airfields.

Military Watch Magazine claims that the new hangars cannot be considered full-fledged reinforced concrete revetments that can withstand a direct hit from a heavy high-precision munition. However, these structures can significantly reduce the likelihood of aircraft damage from shrapnel, drone debris, and secondary damaging factors during explosions near the parking area.

Previously, the Marinovka airbase had already attracted attention due to drone attacks and reports of damage to aircraft located there. After such incidents, the protection of combat aircraft parking areas became one of the key areas for modernizing Russian airfields.
