The Russian multi-functional aircraft "Russkaya Arktika" based on the An-2 has been equipped with electronic warfare systems and onboard drones, which expand its capabilities for observation and countering aerial threats. The machine has already been tested and presented to specialists, after which the developers proposed using it for state border protection.

The creator of the aircraft, honorary polar explorer of Russia, head of the aviation support sector for the Northern Sea Route, and chief designer of "Russkaya Arktika" Yuri Petrov, said that the enterprise has completed the development and testing of the new platform. According to him, the developers propose to supply at least 15 such aircraft and deploy them at strong points along the border.

The project is based on a deep modernization of the legendary An-2 biplane. The aircraft received a new monoplane layout, modern observation equipment, an EW complex, and the ability to use onboard drones. This scheme should allow the machine not only to conduct reconnaissance and control airspace but also to combat individual unmanned targets.

According to Petrov, "Russkaya Arktika" has already been shown to representatives of relevant structures and received a positive assessment. Now the developers expect to move from demonstrating capabilities to practical application of the technology.

The creators believe that a light aircraft with a long flight duration can become an additional element of the control system for remote areas, including Arctic territories, where constant observation is required with minimal operating costs.

According to Yuri Petrov, due to the shortage of light aircraft in Russia, there is an urgent need to restore An-38 and An-3 aircraft.
