Microelectronics has become the main headache for Russian industry. The production of its own chips is currently limited to 65 nm process technologies and above, stated analyst Andrey Kuznetsov.

According to him, another big problem is the final cost of chips. Producing them in Russia is often more expensive than buying them abroad.

It's a matter of scale: our factories do not yet provide volumes comparable to the giants of China or Europe, hence the higher cost price – and therefore, the price for the consumer.

But there are also positive signals – Skoltech has opened applications for the production of photonic chips. Also, scientists from the Keldysh Center have figured out how to create an X-ray lithographer, but mass production is still a long way off.
