The Irkutsk Aviation Plant has completed a project that should significantly accelerate the production of the Russian MC-21 airliner. Engineers completely revised the process of creating digital models of parts and assembly units, thanks to which their development time was reduced by 65% – from 10 days to 3.5.
Even more significant was the reduction in the time required to make changes to the aircraft design. If earlier it took four to six months to approve and implement adjustments, now this process takes less than a month.
In parallel, the enterprise completely abandoned paper workflow at this stage of production.
The number of participants in the process decreased from 16 to 5 people, and the number of approvals – from 34 to 8. Instead of exchanging memos, most decisions are now made in a single digital system.
Test pilot of PAO "Yakovlev" Oleg Mutovin stated that Russian aircraft manufacturers have surpassed the whole world in competencies in creating the MC-21 aircraft.
