Plans to create analogues of American microchips for military equipment have faced a serious delay. The Ministry of Industry and Trade demanded that the Research Institute of Molecular Electronics pay a fine of 462.8 million rubles for missing the deadlines for fulfilling the state contract.
System-on-chip microcircuits were supposed to replace solutions from the American company Microchip Technology.
The third stage of work was planned to be completed in November 2019. However, it was actually delivered only in December 2021; the delay was 770 days.
This is not the first such example in domestic microelectronics. Recently, the Kurchatov Institute received a fine of 110 million rubles for disrupting the import substitution of Intel and Broadcom chips.
Nevertheless, there are plans to master a new 130-nanometer lithograph by the end of 2026, said Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. He is confident that Russia has returned to the elite of the world industry.
