Laser air defense systems have not appeared en masse due to their irrationality. Traditional anti-aircraft systems are still significantly cheaper, explained analysts from the Telegram channel "Voennaya Khronika".
According to them, "on paper," a laser shoots at everything that moves, but in practice, its operation is extremely limited. Although, in reality, such stationary systems are practically impossible on the first and second lines of defense.
It can be concluded that their use, at least at present, is irrational, inexpedient, and economically inferior to conventional anti-aircraft systems.
Laser air defense in Russia is being created as part of the "Posokh" project. To increase efficiency, the system was integrated with radar, which allows for more accurate detection and tracking of "birds." According to the latest information, during tests, it was possible to achieve a range of 1.5 km.
But there is a key problem here: how to cool the installations after each shot. Unlike classic air defense systems, a laser cannot continuously fire at a large number of targets without pauses.
