On June 3, the third EP2DM series electric train, created by Transmashholding specialists, departed on its first journey on the Sestroretsk direction. The new train is already operating on the "tactical" route, gradually replacing trains of previous generations.
The carriages are equipped with ergonomic seats with USB and Type-C connectors. The climate control system is combined with air disinfection. Modern display boards are available for passenger information. The train is adapted for passengers with limited mobility – a barrier-free environment is provided. There are also bicycle mounts in the train.
The EP2DM will replace three and a half pairs of ET2M series trains on the route to Sestroretsk. Transmashholding notes that every detail of the domestic electric train is designed for passenger convenience. The launch of new trains is part of the rolling stock renewal program on suburban routes.
The product is built on the "Moscow" (Ivolga 3.0) engineering platform, originally created for the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD), however, the new version of the train is adapted for the standard DC contact network (3 kV). The EP2DM is equipped with a Russian asynchronous traction drive, hermetic inter-car gangways, and panoramic doors with anti-vandal coating. The first two trains of the series entered service in May 2026.
