Russian Railways and Transmashholding have for the first time concluded a three-year agreement for the supply of suburban electric trains. The contract provides for the purchase of equipment from the Demikhovsky Machine-Building Plant, which is part of the TMH structure. This year, 110 cars, united in 15 trains, will be transferred to the customer. 70 cars will make up the EP3D series for operation on alternating current, and 40 cars will be included in the EP2DM series, designed for direct current.
The new equipment will replace rolling stock that has exhausted its assigned service life on the sections of the Oktyabrskaya, Gorkovskaya, North Caucasian, Kuibyshev, Krasnoyarsk and Far Eastern railways.
The decommissioning of obsolete cars will free up repair capacity and allow operational services to expand the suburban route network.
The EP3D and EP2DM electric trains are completely designed and assembled from Russian components. The plant's engineers paid special attention to passenger comfort and an accessible environment. Climate systems, specialized lifts and fasteners for low-mobility groups were installed in the cabins. Sanitary units were initially located only in the head cars, but now, in trains longer than five cars, an additional toilet is also provided in the intermediate non-motor sections.
It was reported the day before that a joint venture between the Russian Transmashholding, the Indian Rail Vikas Nigam Limited and Kinet Railway Solutions completed the manufacture of the head car body for the Vande Bharat sleeping electric train.
