In Cheboksary, the controlled operation of the articulated Belarusian-Russian "Gorozhanin" trolleybus, based on the MAZ-216 body, has begun. The test period will last until July 8, 2026. This was announced by the press service of the Minsk Automobile Plant (OAO "MAZ").
The trolleybus accommodates up to 138 passengers (44 seating places) and is equipped with an autonomous travel function: it can travel up to 30–40 kilometers without wires.
In 2025, the passenger transport fleet of Cheboksary was replenished with 40 "Gorozhanin" trolleybuses based on the MAZ-203 body. In parallel, MAZ, in cooperation with the Ufa Tram and Trolleybus Plant (AO "UTTZ"), developed a version with the MAZ-216 body.
