Minsk Tractor Works is looking for a replacement for Chinese Weichai engines

Additional pre-cleaners, which remove up to 90% of dust, have started to be installed on machines

Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ) is exploring the possibility of installing alternative engines on its high-power tractor models, in addition to Chinese Weichai engines, said Vadim Kantor, Deputy Marketing Director for Service.

According to Kantor, problems with Weichai engine wear due to dust are not related to the quality of the power units themselves, but to violations of maintenance rules. The main reason is the blowing out of air filters, which machine operators perform despite a direct prohibition, guided by outdated methods. This leads to fine dust entering the piston group and premature wear. Inattentive installation or loose tightening of filtering elements also leads to problems.

To solve this problem, additional pre-cleaners capable of removing up to 90 percent of dust have begun to be installed on Belarus tractors. New devices are being installed on equipment both on the assembly line and in farms. Work is also underway to improve the air purification system.

Despite Weichai's decent performance, MTZ is simultaneously exploring the possibility of installing at least two alternative engines on its high-power models. Which specific engines are being considered has not yet been specified.
