Engineers from Tolyatti State University (TSU) are creating a robotic cell for ultrasonic welding of polymer interior parts for Lada cars. As reported by the university's press service, the development is being carried out in partnership with AvtoVAZ – the general industrial partner of the advanced engineering school "HybridTech". The main task is to completely eliminate manual retooling of equipment when switching between models.
The key feature of the cell is its versatility. It allows welding trunk trim parts for Lada Vesta and Lada Azimut in automatic mode without retooling. The operator only needs to select the type of part on the control panel. This required deep structural development: integration of sensors, pneumatic drives for automatically adjustable clamps, and optimization of cable channel routing. In world practice, tooling is usually specialized for a specific part, and retooling is done manually – the Russian solution currently has no such analogues.
In addition to ultrasonic welding, TSU specialists are working on robotizing bumper riveting and implementing automatic quality control systems based on machine vision and artificial intelligence. In the future, AvtoVAZ plans to create a new generation of production tools on a unified cyber-physical platform, combining hybrid technologies, automated measurement tools, and AI elements. This aligns with the company's corporate policy, which provides for the large-scale introduction of industrial robots, cobots, and logistics robotic systems of its own production.
