Innopolis University has created software that simplifies and speeds up the setup of welding robots. The solution was presented at the "Metalworking-2026" exhibition, "Pervy Tekhnichesky" was informed by the university.
The new software is especially useful when working with complex part geometries and hard-to-reach welding zones. The operator scans the part, the system automatically selects points for scanning, combines the obtained data with a 3D model, and automatically calibrates the part's position. Then the operator sets up the weld seams, and the software builds the trajectory, checks it in a virtual environment, and launches a simulation. If necessary, the trajectory can be edited. The finished program is uploaded to the robot controller.
Programming with the new software is three to five times faster than with a traditional remote control, according to the university. Scanning and alignment with a 3D model save up to two to three hours on retooling. This makes the product particularly beneficial for small and medium-batch production.
The system is compatible with any industrial robot that has development tools for external control. The software can be used in the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, aerospace industry, energy, pipeline transport, as well as in the production of agricultural machinery and complex building structures.
The developers' immediate plans include expanding the list of supported robot brands, registering the product in the register of domestic software, preparing the solution for market launch, and supplementing the functionality for programming multi-robot welding cells with autonomous optimization of their operation.
