"Aviastar" to Triple Aircraft Skin Lifespan: Il-100 on the Horizon

The enterprise will introduce a new section for strengthening large-sized parts

At the Ulyanovsk "Aviastar" plant, a new section for forming and strengthening large-sized aircraft panels will be implemented. The project will be realized using equipment developed by Irkutsk National Research Technical University.

Two processes will be combined in one cycle for the first time. The part is simultaneously formed and strengthened, which allows for high precision and increased service life.

The technology ensures a geometric deviation of no more than 0.5 mm even for large skin elements. These are critical characteristics for modern airliners, where precision directly affects aerodynamics and structural lifespan.

Part production will accelerate by 2–3 times due to automation and reduction of auxiliary operations. The lifespan of structural elements can increase up to three times.

"Aviastar" will begin producing new aircraft – the Il-276 and Il-100. The former is positioned as a lighter and updated version of the Il-76, while the Il-100 is a completely new military transport aircraft.

Recall that "Aviastar" is already serially producing modernized heavy military transport aircraft Il-76MD-90A and tankers based on them – the Il-78M-90A.
