PAO Tupolev is unlikely to be capable of building the new wide-body aircraft Tu-454, but the final decision will be made by the United Aircraft Corporation. Aviation expert and editor-in-chief of the Avia.ru portal Roman Gusarov told this to First Technical.
According to him, in the next 10 years there will be no new wide-body aircraft in Russia. Everything hinges on the creation of an engine capable of powering such an airliner.
If we look at the current disposition, I believe that, first of all, the only design bureau with experience in creating wide-body aircraft is Ilyushin. These are specific competencies and technologies. And if we talk about the best-equipped design bureau with experience in creating modern \"digital\" aircraft, that is Yakovlev.
Gusarov singled out these two parameters as key ones, and Tupolev does not fit either of them.
It is not certain that they will get the contract to develop such an aircraft. After all, they are all part of one corporation — OAK, and the specialists there will make the decision.
Oleg Panteleev, executive director of the Aviaport analytical service, explained that the Tu-454 project may \"fail to take off\" if it is aimed only at the domestic market.
