The Russian T-90S tank successfully passed trials in the jungles of Malaysia in the 2000s, while a number of foreign vehicles were unable to complete the route. This was reported by Rostec.
The state corporation clarified that the M1 Abrams, Leclerc, and Leopard 2 tanks did not reach the finish of the forced march. This was due to the greater weight of the vehicles and design features requiring a developed maintenance infrastructure.
Nevertheless, such features are not considered a disadvantage overall, Rostec emphasized, but merely reflect differences in approaches to vehicle design.
Each manufacturer of armored vehicles builds certain priorities into its machines, based on the requirements of the national armed forces and the expected theaters of military operations.
Rostec added that foreign tanks remain modern and technologically advanced vehicles. However, the results of the trials in Malaysia demonstrate differences in operational philosophy.
Earlier it became known that the Uralvagonzavod concern (UVZ) and Rosoboronexport are ready to offer Malaysia flexible cooperation schemes for the latest T-90MS tanks, including assembly and full service support for the combat vehicles.
