The Russian aviation industry faces systemic limitations due to its focus on borrowing ready-made solutions, rather than developing its own product. This opinion was expressed by Evgeny Raspopov, Deputy General Director for Science at JSC "NPP "Aerosila".
According to him, the attempt to reduce production time by copying often has the opposite effect.
In aviation, a "quick solution" almost always turns out to be more complex and expensive than it seems at the start. As a result, the main thing is lost — understanding the cause-and-effect relationships in the design.
Raspopov clarified that the key problems manifest at the level of materials, technologies and certification. The domestic production base differs from the foreign one, which leads to deviations in resource and reliability.
At the same time, foreign experience should not be ignored. Design bureaus that already have their own experience in designing and developing similar products are able to use it with minimal risks.
Economist Dmitry Tortev noted that another "brake" for the Russian aviation industry was not the lack of technology, but the endlessly long cycle of "testing – revisions – new certification".
