Increased fines for violating the rules of transporting children have yielded results

Traffic Police: The number of minors killed in road accidents has decreased by 12.5%

Since the beginning of 2026, 14 children under the age of 16 have died in road accidents while being transported without child seats or other restraint devices, and 219 have been injured. This is 12.5% and 19.8% less, respectively, than the figures for the same period in 2025, which is confirmed by the traffic police statistics.

In 3 months of 2026, there were 167 accidents in which minors were injured. A year earlier — 226, and in 2024 — 230.

In Russia, the rules for transporting children were tightened on January 9. For drivers, the administrative fine has increased to 5 thousand rubles, for officials — up to 50 thousand rubles, for legal entities — up to 200 thousand rubles.

The traffic police expected that the increase in the monetary penalty would help reduce mortality in road accidents among children. Thanks to this measure, taxi drivers will be especially careful behind the wheel when fulfilling an order for a children's fare.

Currently, the following rules for transporting minors are established in Russia: baby car seats — for babies up to 1 year old, car seats — for children up to 7 years old. If the child's height is more than 150 cm, he can be in the back seat and be fastened with a standard seat belt.
