AI cameras of Avtodor will start recording three new violations from 2026

Neural network-based systems will recognize a phone in hand, no seat belt, and stopping on the side of the road

Cameras on emergency commissioner vehicles will begin recording three new types of violations: using a phone while driving, not wearing a seat belt, and stopping on the side of the road without a valid reason. The state company "Avtodor" will launch the update of the cameras' functionality in 2026, its head Vyacheslav Petushenko announced the plans.

We use AI to analyze the traffic situation. Emergency commissioners help - currently 164 crews. The emergency commissioners' vehicles are equipped with photo and video recording systems (four pieces), recording significant speeding on the M-4 "Don", M-11 "Neva" and M-12 "Vostok". This year we will expand the capabilities.

The system operates on the basis of artificial intelligence, which analyzes the video stream from on-board recorders in real time. The algorithms are trained to recognize specific actions of the driver and the position of the car on the roadway. When a violation is detected, the data is automatically transmitted to the processing center for the formation of a decree.

In addition to digital solutions, Avtodor continues to introduce acoustic markings. Special grooves on the asphalt, when driving at the permitted speed, create a recognizable sound effect - for example, the motif of "Kalinka-Malinka". If the driver exceeds the speed, the rhythm is lost, and when leaving the lane, vibration occurs on the steering wheel. The technology was tested on the M-11 highway, and in 2025 it was applied to three sections of the M-12 in the Nizhny Novgorod and Vladimir regions. According to Petushenko, since the appearance of such markings, not a single accident has been recorded on these kilometers.

The effectiveness of the measures is confirmed by statistics: at the end of 2025, the accident rate on Avtodor highways decreased by 11.4% with a network growth of almost a thousand kilometers, and the number of deaths decreased by 18%. The new camera functions and engineering solutions on the roadway are designed to maintain this positive trend.
