Russian airlines have abandoned flights on long-haul Il-96 series aircraft due to inefficiency in modern commercial operation. This was reported by the Kazan publication Business Online.
According to his information, it was for this reason that the Il-96 program in Voronezh was put on hold. However, another problem arose in connection with this - due to difficulties with the supply of spare parts, a significant part of the fleet of imported long-haul aircraft stopped.
Now carriers are forced to use other types of aircraft on routes and fly with refueling. The trend is not yet massive, but such flights have already appeared, said Andrey Patrakov, head of the RunAvia flight safety service.
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Voronezh region, Sergei Khlyzov, reported on the lack of orders for the Il-96 from the VASO aircraft factory. In his opinion, the airlines decided to wait for the opportunity to buy Boeing.
Earlier it became known that the loss of the Sky Gates airline, which operates the Il-96, increased almost 10 times by the end of 2025 - to 3.7 billion rubles.
At the same time, the carrier's revenue in the past year increased by 4% - to 1.25 billion rubles. Of these, 1.13 billion rubles were brought in by air cargo transportation, about 117 million rubles - agency fees.
Interestingly, the cost of sales turned out to be higher - 1.86 billion rubles. Of these, 1.85 billion rubles accounted for cargo transportation.
