At the construction site of the "Tuimaada" power plant, specialists from the "RusHydro" company installed the generator of the first turbine directly on the foundation. The equipment was installed as part of the second stage of construction of the Yakutsk GRES-2 — a new energy installation that will produce 160 megawatts of electricity and 280 gigacalories of heat per hour.
The device, weighing more than one hundred tons, came from Novosibirsk by rail to the Bestyakh station. Then it was reloaded onto heavy vehicles, transported by ferry across the Lena River, and placed on the right bank — right at the construction site.
Currently, over 1,700 people and fifty pieces of equipment are working at the site. Shifts are running non-stop: they are finishing the premises, installing metal structures, pipelines, and equipment. The designers took into account the permafrost, so more than 12,000 tons of metal have already been assembled — the buildings and overpasses stand reliably.
All equipment for the station is of Russian production. Two steam turbines of 80 MW and 140 Gcal/h each, plus two boilers of 500 tons of steam per hour, will become the basis. Together with the first stage of GRES-2, launched in 2017, the new TPP will provide light and heat to the entire city of Yakutsk. The old Yakutsk GRES, which has been in operation for more than half a century, will then be decommissioned.
The "Tuimaada" TPP is part of RusHydro's program for the development of energy in the Far East. The government has approved six such facilities, which will add a total of 2.1 GW of capacity and 2700 Gcal/h of heat. All of them will be commissioned in 2026–2028. The company builds with its own and borrowed funds, returning investments through power supply agreements.
