The latest PD-8 and PD-14 gas turbine engines are now being tested for operability under conditions of crystalline ice entering the air-gas path. This was announced by Vasily Shapkin, First Deputy General Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "National Research Center "N.E. Zhukovsky Institute".
An assessment is being made of the impact on engine parameters, including damageability. All these methods are prescribed in the regulations, this is safety.
As a reminder, one of the most spectacular tests of the PD-8 was the impact of a chicken carcass directly on the engine fan. The power plant successfully passed the bird strike test — one of the important problems for modern aviation.
Earlier, at the Ufa plant UEC-UMPO, one of the key problems in the production of aircraft engines was eliminated — hidden defects and internal pores in titanium and aluminum castings.
They were solved by hot isostatic pressing under high pressure and temperature, which increased the strength and service life of parts for the PD-14 and PD-8.
