Swedish authorities have detained the Russian cargo ship "Adler," which was forced to anchor in Swedish territorial waters due to engine problems. This was reported by the local customs service.

On the night of December 21, Swedish border guards, with the support of the coast guard and police, boarded the ship to inspect the cargo.

"Adler" is a large container ship, its length is 126 meters. The ship is on the European Union sanctions list, the owners in 2022 fell under US restrictions for allegedly transporting weapons for Russia.

The ship left the port of Bronka near St. Petersburg four days ago. It was traveling through the Oresund Strait when an engine failure occurred on Saturday night. After sending a distress signal on Saturday morning, the container ship anchored off the Skon Peninsula in southwestern Sweden.

It is known that "Adler" was used for international cargo transportation between the ports of the Russian Federation, Africa and Algeria.
