Danish authorities have detained the container ship Nora under the Iranian flag, which previously called at the Big Port of St. Petersburg, PortNews reports. The ship anchored east of the city of Olbek and will remain under control until Iran confirms its registration and certification.
According to Starboard Maritime Intelligence, on January 16, the ship arrived in St. Petersburg from the Egyptian port of Damietta, after which it headed back, but was stopped off the coast of Denmark .
In the summer of 2025, the ship was included in the US sanctions list. The reason was allegedly its connection with Iranian businessman Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, who is the son of Ayatollah Khamenei's chief political advisor, Ali Shamkhani.
Danish authorities are planning to inspect the ship, but weather conditions are preventing this so far. The Danish Maritime Authority emphasized that the ship is detained until the flag state provides proof of its proper registration.
