Certification and acceptance tests of the 2ES11-001 "Orlets" AC mainline freight electric locomotive are continuing at the VNIIZhT Experimental Loop in Shcherbinka. The machine, developed and manufactured at the "Uralskiye lokomotivy" plant (part of Sinara Group), is undergoing a key stage of testing before a possible launch into series production.
The tests began in December 2025 and are proceeding according to plan. At the first stage, the locomotive has already covered a significant portion of the planned more than 5,000 km of running at speeds of up to 120 km/h. Specialists are carefully studying:
- braking characteristics,
- traction and energy performance,
- heating and operation of equipment,
- electromagnetic compatibility,
- interaction of all systems.
The second stage includes additional measurements of thermal, strength, and dynamic parameters, as well as verification of the working conditions for the locomotive crew and compliance with sanitary and hygienic standards.
The 2ES11 electric locomotive was developed as an import-substituting successor to the 2ES7 series, created jointly with Siemens. It is equipped with a Russian asynchronous traction drive with a power output of 8,000 kW. The locomotive weighs about 200 tonnes, and its design speed reaches 120 km/h. In its three-section version, it is capable of hauling trains weighing up to 9,000 tonnes, which exceeds the capabilities of previous models by 42%.
The test program is scheduled to run until April 2026 (Q2). After the successful completion of certification and receipt of all necessary approvals, the electric locomotive is planned to be launched into serial production.
